One of the Biggest Issues in Armenian Sports Has Yet to Be Defined - Arthur Nazaryan
The Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Armenia, Arthur Nazaryan, wrote on Facebook:
“Many in Armenia do not differentiate between support and subsidies. When the state allocates money to a sports federation, for instance, for purchasing airline tickets for the European Championship qualifiers (which is often not provided), that is not developmental support. It is merely fulfilling a state obligation.
Subsidy means 'go, participate, so that Armenia is represented.' Support, on the other hand, involves investment in the system such as:
- training for coaches
- gymnasiums
- youth championships
- sports medicine
- analysis
- modern management
If the state covers only the minimum costs of participation and leaves the entire development to the federations, parents, and private donors, then it is a survival model, not a development strategy. The correct definition is the first step toward demanding realistic solutions.
