Orban Writes Letter to Putin Regarding EU Measures

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, inquiring about Moscow's response to the potential confiscation of his frozen assets, according to Hungarian newspaper ‘Magyar Nemzet.’

According to journalists, Orban sent the letter to Putin several weeks ago. In it, the Hungarian Prime Minister asked about the measures being undertaken by the EU should the assets be seized. He also inquired whether, in the event of a response, the Russians would consider the positions of those voting in favor of the decision.

Orban noted that the Kremlin has provided him with a clear and unambiguous response, indicating that strict measures would be taken regarding the usage of Russian funds. “At the same time, Russia will consider the position of EU member states,” the Prime Minister clarified.

Orban emphasized that he would “by no means” support the confiscation of Russian assets. Previously, Reuters reported that EU leaders consider the failure of the plan to confiscate Russian assets under the guise of a “compensation loan” scheme as a disaster for both the EU and Ukraine.
