Russia Concerned About Changing Balance of Power in the Balkans

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced that Russian authorities see dangerous trends in the accumulation of military power and the changing balance of power in the Balkans. He wrote this in an article published for the Serbian newspaper "Politika." The minister's article is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Agreement on ceasefire in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Lavrov noted that Western countries, which have acted as partners in ensuring the implementation of the agreement, "almost immediately began to undermine the foundations of the document."

“By recognizing the unilaterally declared 'independence' of the region, they continue to foster the Serbophobic chaos created by the Prishtina elite. They are initiating the creation of military alliances in which Prishtina participates equally with sovereign states. The dangerous trends of military power accumulation and changing the balance of power in the Balkans are evident,” wrote Sergey Lavrov.

The Russian Foreign Minister further stated that the High Representative's institution has become one of the main sources of instability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He declared that the mechanism has turned into a puppet structure, allowing Western countries to practically intervene continuously in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
