In Georgia, members of the organizational committee for the October 4 protest, during which demonstrators attempted to storm the presidential palace, face charges that could lead to imprisonment for up to 9 years. These charges have been formally filed today.
The accused include Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, Paata Burchuladze, as well as Lasha Beridze and Paata Manjgaladze. They are particularly threatened with significant prison time for their alleged attempts to seize a strategically important site, for organizing and leading group violence, and for calls to overthrow the government and violently alter the constitutional order.
