Tense Situation in Georgia as Protests Continue

Ofelya

Opposition members and activists have taken to the streets of Tbilisi for a massive protest, expressing concerns about the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 4 and the fate of the visa-free regime with the EU.

Opposition leaders and activists opposed to the government's policies gathered in the city center. They initially approached the first building of Tbilisi State University and then marched towards the Parliament of Georgia located on Rustaveli Avenue. Along the way, the protesters stopped near the campaign headquarters of Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

It has been reported that members of opposition parties, representatives of NGOs, as well as students and supporters of the opposition in general are participating in the protests. The rally has been organized by eight opposition parties that are boycotting the local government elections on October 4. According to the organizers, the main goal of the rally is to express dissatisfaction with the current government's policies, support Georgia's aspirations for EU membership, and defend the establishment of a visa-free regime with the EU.
