OSCE PA President Giorgi Tshereteli Calls on Yerevan and Baku to Resume Negotiations under Minsk Group
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), Giorgi Tshereteli, has urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to resume negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, amid escalating tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh.
This was stated in a press release from the OSCE PA. “I call on both sides to cease hostilities in the interest of the peaceful citizens living in the region and to restore negotiations under the auspices of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group for the purpose of a long-term resolution of the conflict,” said Tshereteli's statement.
He added that he is deeply concerned about the recent tensions, particularly regarding reports of civilian casualties. OSCE PA Secretary General Roberto Montella, for his part, reminded that the OSCE PA continues to serve as a platform for dialogue between the parliamentarians of Azerbaijan and Armenia. “The OSCE PA is ready to facilitate parliamentary negotiations between the parties if required by both sides. While the Minsk Group is the OSCE platform where this conflict should ultimately be resolved, the Assembly can augment efforts to help build trust between the parties,” he said.
