Trump's Policies Could Threaten American Economy with Downturn: WP
The trade and immigration policies of President Donald Trump's administration could pose a threat of downturn to the American economy, according to the Washington Post (WP).
The newspaper notes that the US economy might enter a recession before the promised golden age touted by Trump. WP highlights the inflation rate, which was 2.7% annually in July, as well as labor market indicators, noting that in August, the job growth in the US was only 22,000 positions.
“Some on Wall Street are discussing the possibility of a recession,” the newspaper states. Meanwhile, it quotes economist Neil Dutta from Renaissance Macro Research, who estimates the likelihood of an American economic downturn at more than 50%.
At the same time, the newspaper concludes that “administration officials resolutely deny the possibility of a recession.”
