How Many Korean Soldiers Have Died in the War Against Ukraine
Approximately 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed and thousands more injured while fighting in Russia's war against Ukraine, according to data presented to South Korean lawmakers by intelligence representatives. This information was reported by the South Korean Yonhap news agency.
"North Korea has sent around 15,000 soldiers to Russia, and their losses are estimated at about 4,700 people, including approximately 600 killed," lawmakers were informed by intelligence officials.
In exchange for the deployment of troops, Moscow has provided Pyongyang with technical support related to reconnaissance satellites, drones, and anti-aircraft missiles, according to South Korean lawmakers.
Reuters reports that South Korean lawmaker Lee Sung-keun stated that the bodies of the deceased soldiers were cremated in Kursk before being sent back to the DPRK.
On April 28, North Korea confirmed for the first time that it had sent troops to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine. According to a statement released by the Korean state news agency, the decision to deploy troops was made by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un under a bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership agreement.
Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly thanked Kim Jong-un for the participation of North Korean soldiers in the battles in the Kursk region.
