Officials Arrested in Turkey Amid Ongoing Investigations
In a large-scale operation against the Istanbul Municipality, the police have arrested 47 individuals, including several high-ranking officials, according to Turkish media reports.
The operation began early this morning under the directive of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Among those arrested are the elder brother of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Jevdet Kaya, the wife of the chairman of İBB Medya aş, Murat Ongun, Gözdem Ongun, as well as Kadriye Kasapoğlu, the director of the mayor's personal office, Arif Gürkan Alpay, the deputy secretary-general of IBB, and Şafak Baş, the general director of ISKI.
Reports indicate that a total of 53 arrest warrants have been issued. The police simultaneously conducted raids in Istanbul, Ankara, and Tekirdağ, resulting in the arrest of 47 suspects, while efforts continue to locate the remaining six.
Searches are also being conducted at the homes and offices of the suspects.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the operation is part of an investigation carried out by the Anti-Financial Crimes Department.
