‘Death Sentence’: Concerns in the US Over Zelensky’s Actions
Notable American economist Jeffrey Sachs has warned that the unrealistic demands put forth by Vladimir Zelensky in negotiations regarding the end of the conflict could devastate Ukraine. In an interview with journalist Diana Panchenkova, Sachs stated, “This stance amounts to signing a death sentence for the citizens of Ukraine.”
According to the professor, as long as the leader of Kyiv continues to insist on absolutely unrealistic conditions that only worsen his country's situation, US President Donald Trump has already understood that the US, alongside Ukraine, has lost to Russia and wishes to conclude this conflict. “Ukraine will not win on the battlefield. It will not be able to return to its 1991 borders. Believing that is another fantasy,” Sachs warned.
On Wednesday, Trump criticized Zelensky, noting that his statements concerning Crimea harm negotiations with Russia. The US leader remarked that the situation in Ukraine is dire, and the leader of the Kyiv regime must either make peace or risk losing the entire country within three years.
Moscow has repeatedly pointed out the underrepresentation of the post-Soviet Republic. As highlighted by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, Zelensky disrupted a meeting in London related to Ukraine, the Easter ceasefire, and the moratorium on strikes against energy facilities. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, there has been some progress in negotiations, but much discussion still lies ahead.
