Death Toll and Injuries Rise in Sumy, Ukraine
Mariam Z.
On Sunday, in the center of Sumy, a city in northern Ukraine, a Russian ballistic missile strike resulted in the deaths of 34 people, with 117 others injured, according to Reuters. Ukrainian authorities reported that this was the deadliest strike of the year.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded a strong international response, noting that this occurred against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's push for a swift end to the war. Leaders from the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy have condemned the attack. Trump referred to the Russian strike as 'horrific.'
Zelensky shared a video on social media showing the bodies of victims in the city streets, near a destroyed bus and burned vehicles.
