US May Cut Up to 90,000 Troops from Military: Military

The US military leadership is secretly considering the possibility of a massive reduction in troops, including due to rising costs, reports Military.com, citing American officials.

As stated in the article, the current strength of the US armed forces is approximately 450,000 personnel. Sources from the portal claim that among the scenarios being considered by the Department of Defense is a reduction of active military personnel by about 360,000 to 420,000.

"Potential cuts would be one of the most significant in recent years, as military strategists aim to transform the army into a more agile special operations force, which they hope will be better suited for future conflicts," the portal writes.

At the same time, as clarified by the portal, it is unclear whether the potential reduction will affect only the Army Reserve or also the National Guard. Earlier, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had instructed the Pentagon to develop plans to reduce its budget by 8%.
