Prime Minister's Office Addresses False Reports Spread by Azerbaijan
The Prime Minister's Office of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the false reports disseminated by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense in recent days, claiming that Armenian armed forces have fired in the direction of Azerbaijani positions at various sections of the border. This was reported by Armenpress.
"From March 16 to 18, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan has released six statements regarding alleged violations of the ceasefire regime by the Armenian army along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia conducted verification work following all aforementioned statements, and based on the findings, denied claims of violations of the ceasefire regime by the Armenian army. In all these denial statements, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia reminded of its proposal from June 22, 2024, to create a joint mechanism for investigating instances of ceasefire violations and/or similar information, to which Azerbaijan has yet to respond positively.
The statement from the Ministry of Defense on March 17, 2025, noted that it is ready to investigate the facts substantiating Azerbaijan's reports, should they be provided to Armenia. It is noted that up to this moment, the Republic of Azerbaijan has not provided any factual data or justifications regarding alleged violations of the ceasefire by the Armenian Armed Forces.
The Prime Minister's Office of the Republic of Armenia, reaffirming its proposal for the establishment of a joint mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations and/or such information, states that the Armenian army has no cause or directive to violate the ceasefire regime. The Government of the Republic of Armenia is guided by a peace agenda, as evidenced by steps taken toward the finalization of the text of the agreement on establishing peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Concluding the text of the peace agreement and finishing negotiations on this text are crucial steps, and the Republic of Armenia calls on the Republic of Azerbaijan to commence consultations regarding the location and timing of signing the agreement. We find it necessary to emphasize that the agreed text of the draft agreement addresses fundamental issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the establishment of peace and relations, and provides mechanisms for discussing further actions.
It is also important to note that in January 2025, the Republic of Armenia formally presented a proposal to the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the resolution of the issue of railway freight transportation from the western regions of Azerbaijan through the territory of Armenia to Nakhchivan, and in the opposite direction toward third countries, as well as a proposal for the establishment of a mutual arms monitoring bilateral mechanism, and awaits a positive response from Azerbaijan.
At the same time, we reaffirm that the Republic of Armenia is ready to continue work on the demarcation of the state border with the Republic of Azerbaijan in accordance with the regulations on the joint operation of the commission on state border demarcation between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and the state commission for border demarcation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia.
