Azerbaijan's Potential Aggression in the Region Could Disrupt Certain Dynamics - Sargsyan

Trump's unexpected 'landing' in Baku, as well as the recent statements from his security advisor, are indicative of the following, according to international relations expert Suren Sargsyan:

“1. Trump is currently focused on halting the war in Ukraine.

2. Trump is also concentrated on potentially starting negotiations with Iran or otherwise applying pressure on Iran.

Any background processes that could interfere with these main priorities are not needed by Trump. The U.S. clearly understands that Azerbaijan's possible aggression in the region could disrupt certain dynamics.

Hence, it is necessary to deter Azerbaijan (and Turkey) from adventure-seeking and avoid escalating tensions in the South Caucasus. Especially as Turkey needs to sit at the global negotiating table with its cards in hand. Incidentally, the Russia-Azerbaijan tensions are being provoked by Turkey for the same purpose.

Regarding the messages from Trump’s team concerning Armenia, the efforts of the Armenian community, lobbyists, and human rights organizations are also noticeable in this matter. Let’s not forget that Trump’s inner circle includes many individuals who not only know where Armenia is located but also have good connections with the community and a solid understanding of Armenia's issues.

Trump does not need to create new tensions against Russia right now. On the contrary, he needs Russia’s support to resolve both foreign and domestic issues. Therefore, at this moment, he is not interested in opening new 'fronts' against Russia,” Sargsyan stated.
