The Name of Abkhazia's Newly Elected President is Revealed

Badra Gunba has been elected as the President of Abkhazia, receiving 54.73% of the votes in the second round of the presidential elections, according to preliminary results from the Central Election Commission, TASS reports.

The 43-year-old Gunba served as acting president from November 2024 until January 2025 and was previously the vice president.

His opponent was opposition leader Adgur Ardzinba, who served as deputy prime minister and minister of economics from 2015 to 2020.

It is worth noting that following Gunba's victory in the first round of the presidential elections, media reports indicated that representatives of Ardzinba's campaign, considered pro-Turkish, began threatening the local Armenian community, who had supported Gunba.
