Zurabishvili Stripped of State Protection

Zurabishvili Stripped of State Protection

The former President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has been stripped of state protection, as reported by Mtavari Arkhi on December 30. It is noted that the new president, Mikheil Kavalashvili, has signed the relevant law.

Previously, protection for the head of state, the prime minister, and the speaker of the Georgian parliament was guaranteed for one year after the expiration of their powers.

According to the changes, protection is not maintained if the country's Constitutional Court confirms that they violated the constitution during their term.

At the same time, last year, the Constitutional Court of Georgia ruled that Zurabishvili violated the constitution by making uncoordinated foreign visits.

Just the day before, the inauguration ceremony for Kavalashvili as Georgia's new president took place. Zurabishvili, who has not recognized the election results, left the presidential residence and informed her supporters that she intends to participate in a protest on New Year's Eve and visit several countries.
