Blinken and Hakan Fidan Discuss Counterterrorism Efforts in Syria

The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed counterterrorism efforts that pose a threat to Syria and Turkey during a phone conversation. This was stated in a written statement by Matthew Miller, head of the State Department's press service, according to TASS.

"Blinken emphasized the need to support a political process led by and controlled by Syria that respects human rights and prioritizes the establishment of an inclusive and representative government. The Secretary and Foreign Minister Fidan also discussed the common goal of preventing terrorism that threatens the world, Turkey, and Syria," the statement noted.

As previously reported by Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan pointed out the importance of cooperation with the new authorities in Syria to ensure stability during the conversation. The minister expressed support for the efforts of Syria's new authorities to secure the territorial integrity and security of the country, stating that Ankara would not allow the Kurdistan Workers' Party to hide in that territory.
