VIDEO: Geomagnetic Storm to Hit Us, Azizyan Explains
Astronomers report on an impending geomagnetic storm set to strike on October 10-11, starting at 20:00 Yerevan time. This was announced by Levon Azizyan, the director of the Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Center.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the USA, it will be a G3 class "strong" storm, but it may intensify to a G4 class "severe" storm. The solar spot AR3848 erupted on October 9 at 01:50 (UTC) and 12:40 (UTC), generating two outbursts classified as X1.8 and X1.5 respectively.
Geomagnetic storms can last from several hours to several days and are observable across the entire Earth simultaneously. These storms nearly coincide with the maxima of the solar activity's 11-year cycle.
