VIDEO: 600 Thousand Drams for Driver's Licenses - Warning
"I was simply deceived; I realized later that it was a scam," said a citizen who fell victim to an alluring offer circulating on one of the social networks, having paid 600 thousand drams. This information has been reported by the Police.
The citizen, who fell into the trap of fraudsters, had seen an advertisement about obtaining a driver's license on the "TikTok" social network about a month ago. Intrigued by the offer, he decided to acquire a driver's license for himself and his wife.
"The person provided the address of a Telegram channel; I contacted him, called, and set a date. He said he would schedule me for September 12 in Erebuni. I went, and called him; he said he would send me a ticket for the appointment. I obtained a ticket and then he said to write down the phone numbers for you and your wife, the ticket numbers, and the numbers from the social security card, and to send a picture. He said I would receive a message with a code, and I naively sent it," recounted the citizen.
Such so-called users sent the citizen and his wife their driver's licenses via a website, complete with a photo, signature, and issuance date.
"Before that, he had shown me what the driver's license looked like. Seeing all that, I believed him and paid 300 thousand drams for each of us," the citizen said.
After this incident, the victim could not establish contact with the user anymore, and some time later he also deleted his messages with him.
On the morning of October 5, the victim reported the incident to the Central Division of the police.
This case of fraud is certainly not unique. People become victims of scams by unconditionally believing any information circulating on social media (or anywhere else), falling for attractive offers, often fully aware that they are circumventing the law and legality.
Dear citizens, let us be law-abiding and respectful of the law and also media literate; the streams of information on social networks lead to an enormous amount of misinformation. Do not believe dubious and tempting offers circulating on the internet to avoid becoming victims of fraud.
