VIDEO: Greek firefighters struggle to contain massive wildfire in Attica
Powerful forest fires have erupted near Athens, Greece. Civil protection forces have been fighting the natural disaster since the night of August 12. This was reported by the Greek firefighting service.
“Despite superhuman efforts, the fire spread rapidly,” the statement read.
It was noted that residents of several localities have been forced to evacuate. A total of 510 firefighters, 16 forestry brigades, and 152 vehicles are participating in the firefighting effort, along with a large number of volunteers. Additionally, plans are in place to involve 29 aircraft.
The firefighting service has urged local residents to follow the authorities' instructions as stronger fires are expected in the coming hours.
