VIDEO: Eiffel Tower Area Evacuated Due to Man Climbing on It
French police evacuated people from the area surrounding the Eiffel Tower after a man was spotted climbing the landmark hours before the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, according to Associated Press.
The man was seen climbing the 330-meter tower on August 11, reportedly positioning himself directly above the Olympic rings that had been set up in the observation area. "A man started to climb the Eiffel Tower, the police intervened, and the man was arrested," a representative of the Paris police told Associated Press, referencing the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Visitors were evacuated around 3:00 PM. The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games took place at 9:00 PM at the Stade de France in suburban Paris.
On August 4, Armenia secured its first medal at the games, with gymnast Artur Davtyan winning a silver medal. On August 7, Greco-Roman wrestler Artur Aleksanyan (97 kg) lost in the final match to Iranian athlete Mohammadi Saravi, also earning a silver medal. Additionally, on August 7, 77 kg Greco-Roman wrestler Malkhas Amoyan defeated Armenia's Aram Vardanyan of Uzbekistan with a score of 6:5, securing a bronze medal. On August 11, weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan became an Olympic silver medalist.
It is worth noting that the Summer Olympic Games were held in France from July 26 to August 11.
