Video: Several Buildings in Eranos Develop Cracks Following Earthquake, Ministry of Internal Affairs Says
On August 12, following the earthquake in the Gegharkunik region, the crisis management center of the rescue service received around 120 calls related to aftershocks and damages. This was stated by Narek Sargsyan, press secretary of the Minister of Internal Affairs, at a press conference.
He noted that a commission has been formed, with most of the work conducted in the village of Eranos. "Based on the findings, as of now, documentation has been prepared for 82 buildings. These include residential houses and auxiliary structures. In Eranos, cracks of varying sizes have been recorded on the walls of 56 houses, stones have fallen from the earthen walls of 4 animal sheds, and 22 buildings, including the walls of Eranos Secondary School No. 1 and the kindergarten’s animal shed, have been impacted."
In the village of Dzhovasar, cracks are observed on the walls of two houses, while in the village of Tsakqars, damages have been noted on the walls of the secondary school, St. Astvatsatsin Church, and the cultural center.
“The investigations are ongoing,” said Sargsyan.
On August 12, at 02:02 local time (22:02 GMT), the seismic network of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 at geographic coordinates 40.20° N latitude and 45.22° E longitude, 9 km northwest of Martuni, at a depth of 10 km. The intensity of the tremors in the epicentral zone reached 5-6 points.
It is noted that the earthquake was felt with a force of 5 points in the Gegharkunik region, 4 points in the Kotayk region, and 2-3 points in the city of Yerevan. According to the regional seismic protection service, there have been 10 aftershocks of less than 1 magnitude reported (as of 10:00 on August 12).
