Israel Responds to Shelling in the Golan Heights
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that on Sunday night, Israeli airstrikes targeted several locations in Lebanon.
"During the night, Israeli air force struck a number of terrorist targets of Hezbollah both deep in Lebanese territory and in southern Lebanon," the statement said.
The strikes hit areas including Chabriha, Borj al-Shamali, Bekaa, Kfar Kela, Rab al-Talatin, Hiam, and Tayr Harfa, according to the IDF.
The statement noted that the targets of the strikes were Hezbollah's "weapons caches and terrorist infrastructure." Lebanese media had previously reported the strikes.
The assaults were a response to a missile strike on the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, specifically targeting the town of Majdal Shams. Earlier reports indicated that Majdal Shams had been hit, with a missile exploding in a football field, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 people, including children aged 10 to 12.
The Israeli army blamed the Lebanese group Hezbollah for the shelling.
Representatives of Hezbollah denied the allegations, claiming that a missile did not strike Majdal Shams but rather that a missile from Israel's defense system hit the football field. Axios reports, citing its sources, that Hezbollah officials informed the UN that the incident occurred due to an Israeli rocket hitting the football field.
