Moscow Court Issues Ruling to In Absentia Detain Yulia Navalnaya
The Basman District Court of Moscow has issued an in absentia detention order for Yulia Navalnaya for two months, following a request from the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for her participation in extremist community activities, as per part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The detention period will commence upon her extradition or arrest within Russian territory.
The Moscow City Court's press service has reported that Yulia Navalnaya has been formally charged prior to the submission of a request to the court by the investigative authorities. The report states, “Yulia Borisovna has been evading the investigative bodies and is therefore wanted.”
Yulia Navalnaya is the widow of Alexei Navalny, one of the leaders of the Russian opposition.
It is worth noting that Alexei Navalny passed away on February 16 in the IK-3 “Polar Wolf” penal colony in the village of Kharp in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The conclusion about his death states that the politician died of natural causes. No further details have been disclosed. Supporters of the political figure believe he was murdered. His widow, Yulia, has vowed to continue her husband's work.
