Macron Advised to Remain Silent After Election Failure
Allies of French President Emmanuel Macron have advised him to stop campaigning following the failure of his coalition in the first round of parliamentary elections in France. This was reported by Politico, citing its sources.
“He has been told to halt his campaign. It’s not that he has listened to our message, but rather he has been forced to hear it,” the publication quotes an unnamed representative of Macron's “Renaissance” party.
The newspaper emphasizes that “the reality is that his allies do not want him to participate in the campaign.”
In the first round of parliamentary elections in France, the leading party is Marine Le Pen's “National Rally.” The second place is held by the left-wing alliance, while Macron's ruling coalition completes the top three. However, a decisive battle is expected in the second round, which will be held on July 7. The outcome could lead to either a transition of parliament into the hands of the ultra-right or complete chaos in the National Assembly.
At the same time, the French have already indicated their dissatisfaction with the voting results through protests and riots.
Earlier, media reported on Macron’s “disappearance” following the parliamentary elections.
