We Are Always Ready to Support the Settlement of Relations Between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Promotion of the Peace Agenda: Putin
During the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana, the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan met. The discussions also covered the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“We are always ready to support the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the promotion of the peace agenda. The volume of communications between Moscow and Baku is significant. Even if we meet every month, there will always be something to talk about,” said Vladimir Putin.
Ilham Aliyev, for his part, presented the current process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan to Vladimir Putin.
“I would like to emphasize our projects in the infrastructure sector, with the North-South highway being at the forefront. There are possibilities in both the energy and industrial sectors,” Putin emphasized. According to the Kremlin's statement, he highly appreciated Ilham Aliyev's attention to the teaching of the Russian language in Azerbaijan.
Aliyev, in turn, described the increase in mutual settlements in national currencies as a positive development. He also referred to the North-South corridor: “We are determined to expand the corridor's infrastructure in Azerbaijan, although it physically exists, it still does not meet the intentions of our partners and neighbors to maximize its use,” said Aliyev.
“In 2022, we signed a declaration of allied cooperation. For more than two years now, we have been working as allies and showing good results,” concluded the President of Azerbaijan.
