Storm ‘Beril’ Continues to Pose Danger and Potential for Catastrophic Damage

Residents of the Caribbean basin have been urged to seek shelter due to the potential devastating storm that has struck the region. The ‘Beril’ storm, currently just a few kilometers from Barbados, has raised warnings about life-threatening winds and storms.

As ‘Beril’ approached on Sunday evening, dozens of flights across the region were canceled, while leaders urged the public to heed the warnings. The intensity of the ‘Beril’ storm has fluctuated. By late Sunday evening, local time, the storm was rated as a Category 4, but since then, its speed has slightly decreased, reaching maximum winds of about 120 mph, which has led to a downgrade to a Category 3.

The NHC indicates that fluctuations in wind strength are likely to continue but warned that parts of the islands should be prepared for “potentially catastrophic wind damage.”
