Paris Mayor Accuses Macron of 'Spoiling' Olympic Games Celebration

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has 'spoiled' the celebration of the Olympic Games by dissolving the parliament and organizing snap elections. This was stated by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo in an interview with the newspaper Ouest-France on June 25.

“With disrespect towards the French, the president is 'ruining' the celebration. For many, the Games are a pause, which, of course, will not last long, but this is a unique moment to gather together, greet the world, and feel proud,” she noted.

Hidalgo questioned the advisability of holding elections on such short notice, as reported by Газета.Ru.

The mayor also added that everything is ready for the Olympics; the municipal structures have been renovated, and bicycle lanes connecting Olympic venues and trams have been prepared. She expressed confidence that the French capital is ready to host the sporting event.

The Summer Olympic Games will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11. The snap parliamentary elections will be held in two rounds on June 30 and July 7.

Many in France criticize Macron for his policies. On June 23, it became known that investors are concerned about the upcoming parliamentary elections and their outcomes, as Macron's actions are impoverishing the country's economy. Depending on who wins, it will become clear whether the situation will worsen or if there are chances for improvement.

One day earlier, former French President François Hollande stated that 'macronism' has come to an end. He expressed the opinion that the country needs reorganization. In his view, 'macronism' has cost the Republic 'too much' as it has caused significant harm to both the parties and public opinion.
