Armenia's Foreign Ministry to Transfer Proposals to Russia Today, Says Minister of High-Tech Industry
The Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia has announced that the ministry has submitted proposals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the cessation of broadcasts by renowned Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov on Armenia’s public multiplex. These proposals are expected to be forwarded to their Russian counterparts today.
During a joint meeting of the permanent committees of the National Assembly, Minister Mikitar Hayrapetyan emphasized that an intergovernmental agreement was signed between Armenia and Russia in December 2020, just a month and a half after the 44-day war. As a result, three Russian television channels were granted the opportunity to broadcast on Armenia’s public multiplex.
He noted that subsequent developments have demonstrated the need to amend that agreement in practice. “Such a necessity has arisen as unacceptable expressions that offend our statehood, our people's feelings, and dignity have been heard within the Russian media space. Today we presented our proposals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and they will likely introduce them to the Russian Foreign Ministry today as well. By next week at the latest, our Russian partners will receive the official proposals,” stated Hayrapetyan.
He emphasized that the proposals aim to ensure that all violations have consequences. They are preventive measures rather than punitive ones. Ultimately, these measures will allow for the prevention of broadcasts containing content that provokes a strong reaction in Armenia.
