Threats to Armenia's Sovereignty Emanate from Several Countries, Says Kristine Grigoryan
There are numerous threats to Armenia's sovereignty and independence originating from several countries. Kristine Grigoryan, head of Armenia's external intelligence, stated this during a press conference with reporters at the National Assembly today.
Grigoryan refrained from commenting on which countries were being discussed. According to her, reforms are being implemented in Armenia's security sector to neutralize these dangers.
“Our priorities have established the directions of external threats as well as the important intelligence information that the service must collect for the country's development. These are aimed at the external threats to the republic, which arise from various countries and phenomena,” Grigoryan noted.
She emphasized that intelligence information and analyses are intended to ensure that political decisions are made based on significant data. Grigoryan added that in all countries, external security challenges have both internal and external actors, and Armenia is no exception.
When asked why the law enforcement system in Armenia has not made any disclosures regarding “internal actors” to date, Grigoryan stated that disclosures do occur.
Regarding the question of whether there is a danger of an attack from Azerbaijan, Grigoryan responded that such a threat always exists as long as relations have not normalized. “Threats should be taken seriously, but they should not be exaggerated, leading to certain conclusions. We assess these risks appropriately on a daily basis and inform the Prime Minister,” she added.
