VIDEO: Freight Train Travels 70 km Without Engineer in India
Last Sunday, a freight train consisting of 53 wagons filled with gravel "escaped" from the Katuar station in the Jammu and Kashmir region and traveled more than 70 kilometers without any engineers on board. The train was initially halted at a railway station for a crew change, but it appears to have started rolling down the track after the departing engineer and his assistant forgot to apply the handbrake, reports The Times of India.
Railway officials were alerted, and measures were put in place along the entire route to secure the crossings. During its journey, the train reached almost 100 km/h before it was finally brought to a stop in Punjab using sandbags and wooden beams as barriers. No injuries or material damage have been reported, and authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.
