Three Residents of Yerevan Arrested for Distributing Counterfeit $100 Bills
Three residents of Yerevan have been arrested for distributing counterfeit $100 bills. The information was provided by the Armenian Police.
It is reported that a 53-year-old resident of Yerevan, along with two passengers aged 25 and 37, made purchases worth 80,000 drams at the "Aghavnazor Market" area in the village of Arpi around 7:00 PM on February 7, handing over two counterfeit $100 bills to the seller.
Subsequently, the aforementioned individuals made purchases worth 16,000 drams from a woman selling herbs in a pavilion in the town of Jermuk. The payment was made with another counterfeit $100 bill, receiving 24,000 drams in change.
The affected citizens reported the incident to the police, bringing the counterfeit bills with them. It was revealed that one individual had embezzled over 315 million drams, affecting 23 persons.
It was noted that on February 11 at around 2:30 PM, patrol officers in the Vayots Dzor region, acting on received information, stopped the aforementioned "Opel" vehicle at the 123.5 km mark of the Yerevan-Meghri road, arresting the three residents of Yerevan and transporting them to the Yeghegnadzor division of the police. The vehicle has been moved to a special storage area of the division.
During a personal search, one counterfeit $100 bill was found in the driver's possession, while the 37-year-old passenger had ten counterfeit $100 bills in his bag. It was also discovered that the trio from Yerevan had distributed counterfeit $100 bills in the area known as Areni Market in the village of Arpi. The arrested individuals and the compiled documents have been referred to the Vayots Dzor regional investigative department.
