Jermuk Company Excludes Presence of Acetic Acid in Bottled Water

Jermuk mineral natural healing-table drinking water does not use acetic acid in its production at all. This was stated by Vladimir Poghosyan, the executive director of Jermuk Group CJSC, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia. He excludes the possibility of acetic acid being present in the bottled "Jermuk" natural mineral water.

“The rumors are evidently unfounded and do not correspond to reality,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that in Vladikavkaz, a man consumed vinegar from a bottle of "Jermuk" mineral water and suffered esophageal burns (it was later revealed that he passed away in the hospital). Following the incident, the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing announced a temporary halt on the sale of separate batches of "Jermuk" brand mineral water for safety inspection purposes.

The restrictions concern water bottled in 0.5-liter glass bottles produced on December 28, 2023, and supplied to the Russian market from December 28, 2023, to February 12, 2024.

Poghosyan assured that the physical, chemical, and microbiological tests of the samples from the batch in question confirm that "Jermuk" mineral natural healing-table drinking water complies with the requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union’s technical regulations.

“Jermuk Group uses exclusively materials in production whose safety meets international standards and are intended for use in the food industry. The alleged amounts of residues in the water, as well as the composition of "Jermuk" natural mineral water, cannot cause burns, including esophageal burns,” he stated.

Vladimir Poghosyan also added that the production of bottled Jermuk water is a continuous manufacturing process with a fully automated closed cycle. The minimum quantity per cycle is 1200 bottles. Therefore, if any deviation from standards were to be detected, that inconsistency would have to be present in all bottled bottles during that period, without exception.

“There are attempts to tarnish the company’s good reputation and the long-standing hard work over the years. We will go to great lengths to restore the company’s good reputation,” he stated.

The company is confident that competent authorities will conduct an objective investigation into the incident, which will rule out any connection between the tragedy in Vladikavkaz and "Jermuk" mineral natural healing-table drinking water.
