VIDEO: "There is still a possibility of escalation at the border," Mirzoyan
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, stated that it is not fundamentally important for Armenia whether the negotiations with Azerbaijan will take place in the presence of mediators or through direct communication. "What is fundamental are the content and principles of the negotiations that should take place," he said.
According to Mirzoyan, meetings on the text of the peace treaty can be called either mediated or direct if there is a desire. "Different partners have organized the meetings, but at the same time, one can say that these were direct negotiations because during the meeting, both sides were negotiating with each other," he explained.
He stated that discussions on this matter are artificial.
Speaking about the meetings of the countries' leaders, he emphasized that there are attempts to organize them, but no agreements have yet been reached. "At this moment, there is no agreement for a meeting between the leaders of the two countries, nor is there an agreement for a meeting between the foreign ministers," he noted.
According to Mirzoyan, there is still a possibility of escalation at the border. "The rhetoric we witnessed in the interview of the President of Azerbaijan does not allow us to relax our vigilance for a single moment. Moreover, we heard open demands regarding Armenia's sovereign territory in that same interview," he added.
