Babita, a grandmother from Greater Noida in the state of Uttar Pradesh, abducted her grandchild on May 10, 2023. The newborn's mother, Sivangi, stated that she and her husband went out to collect medicine that day and had asked a relative to look after the baby. When the couple returned, neither their son nor the grandmother was at home anymore.
Babita handed the boy over to a woman, who then took him to a doctor. With the assistance of accomplices, the baby was sold to a man named Amarvir for 200,000 rupees (approximately 947,390.00 AMD). Babita received 50,000 rupees (around 233,480.00 AMD) for her involvement in the crime.
Some time later, the police managed to apprehend and arrest the grandmother, who later confessed to her actions. The child was returned to the mother eight months after the abduction. “God heard my prayers and returned my child safe and sound,” the mother told reporters.
