British Military Successfully Tests Laser Weapon
The UK Ministry of Defence has completed tests of a laser weapon known as DragonFire, according to the department's press service. The trials took place at a military firing range located in the Hebrides.
During the tests, the long-range laser-guided energy weapon successfully struck aerial targets. The press service of the British defense department stated that the use of laser weapons could significantly advance the development of the country's armed forces. This is due to the technology upon which the new development is based, allowing for high-precision deployment without significant expenditures on munitions.
It was noted that the system possesses high accuracy, enabling it to hit objects the size of a coin from a distance of one kilometer. The maximum operational range of the weapon has not been disclosed, but it is claimed that it can hit almost any visible target.
This advanced type of weaponry could revolutionize military operations by reducing dependence on expensive munitions and minimizing the risk of collateral damage, stated UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps.
