Protests in Abkhazia Against Transferring the State Sanatorium 'Pitsunda' to Russia
Protests have erupted in Abkhazia against the transfer of the state sanatorium 'Pitsunda' to Russia. In response, the parliament has convened an extraordinary session.
Demonstrators have gathered for an indefinite protest near the building of the Abkhazian parliament. They are dissatisfied with the decision to hand over the state 'Pitsunda' to Russia. A session regarding this issue is scheduled to take place today in the legislative body, with the primary demand from the opposition being the removal of this matter from the agenda.
Abkhazia and Russia previously made necessary amendments to the text of the agreement regulating the handover of state property, as inaccuracies had occurred during the delineation of borders. Thus, the session is expected to address these inaccuracies.
Moreover, the Russian ambassador has stated that this agreement does not affect the fate of the land itself but applies only to the building. The area is occupied by Russia under a lease agreement.
