The Assyrian MP from Turkey, George Aslan (Ariyo), a follower of the Syrian Christian Church, congratulated all Christians in Turkey—Greeks, Armenians, and Assyrians—by publicly reciting a Christmas greeting in Aramaic in the Turkish Parliament.
This action triggered outrage among several Turkish MPs. In response, George Aslan stated that they are the indigenous peoples of the country, carrying its history and have not come from afar. He questioned why he was not allowed to speak in his native language.
