Margara Border Checkpoint with Turkey May Be Ready Next Week, Says Badazyan
The construction of the "Margara" border checkpoint with Turkey may be completed next week. This was stated by the head of the State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badazyan, during a briefing with journalists after a government meeting.
"The checkpoint is nearly ready. There is a specific timeline set by the contract for completing the construction works, but it is possible that it will be ready by next week. There is almost no work left to be done," added Badazyan.
He mentioned that the implementation of construction works has been urgent, which is why the State Revenue Committee opted for a single-source procurement. According to him, they requested a list of companies from the Urban Development Committee that can carry out such a volume of work in a short time. The committee provided the company details, and the process has started.
"There is an agreement that citizens holding diplomatic passports and citizens of third countries will be able to cross the border between Armenia and Turkey, thus there was urgency in organizing all of this. If you visited the 'Margara' checkpoint, you would see that it could not serve any citizen at all with its old, worn-out structures, and there was no infrastructure. It can be said that a new checkpoint has been built from scratch that can at least serve passenger flows," elaborated Badazyan.
