Baku Refuses Washington Meeting of Foreign Ministers

One-sided approach of the USA may lead to a loss of its mediator role. This was stated in a commentary by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan regarding unfounded statements made by James O’Brien, assistant to the US Secretary of State, during the hearing of the Europe subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This information is conveyed by Azerbaijani media.

“It is important to note that under these conditions we do not consider it possible to hold a meeting at the level of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 20, 2023, in Washington,” the commentary reads.

It is recalled that earlier, James O’Brien, assistant to the US Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, announced during hearings in the US Congress on the topic of Nagorno-Karabakh that the United States has ceased military and other assistance to Azerbaijan, canceled several high-level visits, and that Washington has informed Baku that there will be no normalization of bilateral relations as long as there is no progress in peace negotiations with Armenia.
