Cypriot Government Considers Housing Armenian Refugees
The government of Cyprus is prepared to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh and is discussing the possibility of accommodating Armenian refugees in the country. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, referencing a statement from the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the recent events in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The Republic of Cyprus remains open to the Armenian people. In this context, the Cypriot government is ready to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to thousands of Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, who are fleeing their ancestral homes. In this regard, the possibility of housing a number of Armenian refugees in our country is also being considered if such a necessity arises," the statement indicates.
The Cypriot Foreign Ministry condemned the military operations by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19 and 20, as well as the gross violations of the ceasefire agreement from November 9, 2020. Cyprus also accused Baku of ethnic cleansing.
