Azerbaijan Files Charges Against David Babayan on More Than 20 Counts

The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has issued a statement regarding fabricated charges against the former Foreign Minister of Artsakh, David Babayan. According to the announcement, the number of articles under which David Babayan has been charged exceeds 20.

"The investigation has revealed that David Klime Babayan, born in 1973 in Khankendi (Stepanakert), has served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the separatist regime from 2013 to 2023, as the President's assistant on foreign policy matters, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and President's assistant on special issues. During both the domestic 44-day war and the period of conducting anti-terrorist measures aimed at restoring Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and ensuring population security, he was involved in activities directed at inciting national enmity and hatred in collaboration with leaders of the fictitious regime’s criminal group, coordinating the activities of terrorist organizations.

He also participated in the shelling of Ganja's unprotected areas, where civilian populations resided, on October 17, 2020, committing murders with particular brutality and injuring numerous civilians, connected to crimes of terrorism on the grounds of national enmity and hatred.

On October 29, 2020, David Babayan was charged under various articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code 100.1, 100.2, 32.3, 114.1, 32.3, 116.0.1, 32.3, 116.0.6, 32.3, 116.0.7, 32.3, 116.0.8, 32.3, 116.0.9, 32.3, 116.0.10, 117.2, 32.3, 214.2.1, 32.3, 214.2.3, 32.3, 214.2.4, 283.2.1, and 283.2.3. As a precautionary measure, the court decided to place him under arrest and he has been placed on the international wanted list." The statement concludes with the information that Babayan was arrested by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies on September 29 of this year and handed over to the investigation, where charges were filed against him under the aforementioned articles.

Previously, Azerbaijani media reported that David Babayan had been detained for a period of 4 months.
