‘Now they will try to use this opportunity to deal us another fatal blow’ - Alen Simonyan
We love to tell and talk about how ancient a nation we are, but what have we learned over those thousands of years? This was stated by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on his Facebook page.
“We boast of our past and divide ourselves from each other. You are from Armenia, I am from Artsakh, you are a Syrian Armenian, I am a Russian Armenian, I am from Aparan, you are from Gyumri, Vanadzor, Yerevan, and then for instance, in Yerevan—Komitas, Kentron, Aresh, then our neighborhood, your neighborhood, our building, your building.
Now they will try to use this opportunity to deal us another fatal blow. Enough is enough. After all, they do not kill us one by one; they kill us all in one place with one blow. I do not believe that today there is a single Armenian whose heart does not bleed, no matter who they are or where they are from or what idea they hold.
These days are a good opportunity to understand that an Armenian cannot be an enemy to another Armenian, cannot hate, cannot desire to kill; we have neither the resources nor the right for that. Yes, we have many questions for each other, more disagreements than ever, but there is a line that cannot be crossed; that limit has long since run out, it’s over, do you hear me? Yes, and do not look for the guilty; we are all guilty, all of us. Now there is one thing we must do—be UNITED. Let us heal our wounds and move forward. We are as solid as our mountains; we will get through this as well, we need to endure,” he wrote.
