US Plans to Finalize Details of International Observer Mission for Nagorno-Karabakh Soon - State Department
The United States intends to finalize the details of an international observer mission for Nagorno-Karabakh in the coming days and is pleased that Azerbaijan is ready to accept it. This was announced by Matthew Miller, the official spokesman of the State Department.
“We will be working with our allies and partners in the coming days to determine what exactly that mission will look like. Ultimately, we want to see a return to the negotiating table,” he said during a press briefing with the media.
Miller added that the US welcomes the “literally just made announcement from the Azerbaijani government... that they would be happy to accept such an international observer mission.”
According to him, the US does not view the role Russia played during the recent escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh as effective. “I certainly do not think that Russia played an effective role last week. There have been times when they have supported negotiations and we have welcomed that. But certainly not last week,” Miller stated.
