Joe Biden's Letter to Nikol Pashinyan

The head of the U.S. Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, has conveyed a letter from U.S. President Joe Biden to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In the letter, it states:

“His Excellency Nikol Pashinyan
Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia
Yerevan

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

I send my best wishes to you and the people of Armenia on the occasion of Independence Day. This year, as we celebrate this noble occasion, we also mourn the death of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. I have asked Samantha Power, one of my cabinet's key members, to personally convey the strong support of the United States and my administration for Armenia's aspiration for a dignified and sustainable regional peace that will guarantee your sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and democracy.

Armenia has demonstrated its commitment to this goal by engaging in peaceful negotiations with Azerbaijan, as well as implementing important economic reforms, improving government accountability, and strengthening democratic institutions. I assure you that the United States will continue to support Armenia in its efforts to strengthen democracy in the country and establish stability in your neighborhood.

The United States is committed to working with your government to address the humanitarian needs stemming from recent violence, which Ms. Power will discuss with you in detail. We will also continue to strengthen our cooperation in energy diversification, resilience, and security, as demonstrated by our recent exercises.

The rich history of Armenia has inspired nations and peoples everywhere to aspire to freedom and justice. Meanwhile, the Armenian-American community continues to be a source of strength in my own country. I hope to continue to deepen and strengthen the bonds between our states and peoples in the coming year.”
