Azerbaijan Appoints Sargis Galstyan as Representative in Artsakh: Who Is He and What Connections Does He Have?

Sargis Galstyan, the former director of the "Avan Plaza" hotel in Shushi, has been appointed as Azerbaijan's representative in Artsakh. This information was reported by Aravot.am.

"Sargis Galstyan is the cousin of Davit Galstyan, the head of the 'Justice' faction in the Artsakh Parliament," the website states.

According to media reports, Sargis Galstyan was one of the activists in the 1990s who promoted people's diplomacy and frequently visited Baku. It is also mentioned that after the 44-day war in 2020, videos were circulated in which an employee of the 'Avan Plaza' hotel in Shushi declared that their director was an Azerbaijani by nationality, but had been living in Artsakh for 13 years.

"Sargis Galstyan, who has been appointed as the military governor of Stepanakert by the Aliyev administration, is the close cousin of Davit Galstyan, a deputy from the 'Justice' faction in the Artsakh National Assembly, and has godfather relationships with Bako Sahakyan," journalist Tatul Hakobyan wrote.

Galstyan has served as the deputy head of the staff of the Ministry of Education of Artsakh and previously held a position in the administration of the Shushi region.

"I am revealing this information now openly, as Azerbaijan has already confirmed it. Sargis Galstyan was contacted today from Yerevan by his relatives who have relocated here. He literally said that he is in Khankendi and serving Azerbaijan against Nikol. In his previous posts on Facebook, Galstyan referred to Nikol as 'efendi'," the journalist wrote.
