Estonia's Prime Minister's Husband's Russian Business Linked to Dispersing Protests in Belarus and Russia

Estonia's Prime Minister Kaja Kallas' husband, Arvo Hallik, has been linked to a company that supplied components for tear gas production to Russia. This information comes from an investigation by the Estonian newspaper Eesti Päevaleht.

The gas was reportedly used to disperse protest demonstrations in Russia and Belarus. A year ago, in 2017, Belarus's Ministry of Internal Affairs used tear gas to suppress protests against Alexander Lukashenko's regime. In Russia, protests against pension reforms were also dispersed using tear gas in 2018.

In the coming two weeks, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is expected to provide clarification to the parliament regarding the scandal involving her husband’s company, Arvo Hallik.

Earlier, it was reported that the Estonian government leader had apologized for this business connection.
