A True Medieval Siege: Mirzoyan on Azerbaijan's Blockade of Artsakh

In Nagorno-Karabakh, 120,000 citizens are experiencing a true medieval siege. This was stated by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a strategic forum held in the Slovenian town of Bled. He published excerpts of his speech on his X microblog.

In his remarks, the Armenian Foreign Minister addressed the role of international institutions in the context of crisis situations. He noted, “You all know about Nagorno-Karabakh, which is located in the South Caucasus region. Currently, due to Azerbaijan's blockade of the Lachin corridor, 120,000 people are facing a true medieval siege. Nagorno-Karabakh is currently not receiving any supplies, whether they be food, medicine, or fuel. Nothing at all,” said Mirzoyan.

The head of the Armenian foreign policy department pointed out that on one side, institutions have been established over decades and all necessary tools have been amassed to manage crises and conflicts. However, when it comes to actual crises and conflicts, these tools are often not effective enough. “We do not lack deficiencies in institutions; we need something else. I believe that what is lacking here is political will, a disregard for the rules, and this applies to everyone, not just those who violate the rules. The alternative to respecting the rules is chaos,” stated the Armenian Foreign Minister.

It is noteworthy that Ararat Mirzoyan participated in the Bled Strategic Forum held in Slovenia on August 28-29.
