Emergency Meeting Held in Artsakh Regarding Child Abuse Case
An emergency interagency meeting was held at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs concerning the high-profile case of a girl who was beaten and humiliated, as well as other children in the family. The ministry reports that the meeting included the acting Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Anna Zhamakotchyana, deputy ministers, the governor of Gegharkunik Province, and representatives from various other agencies.
"During the meeting, discussions took place regarding actions taken and planned in relation to the case. Possible measures to prevent similar incidents were also discussed. The relevant authorities reported on the progress of the ongoing work within their responsibilities, reaffirming that every action is based on the best interests of the child," the statement said.
Emphasizing the importance of implementing new measures, the participants agreed to continue working in an operational headquarters format, which will function within the context of the National Commission for the Protection of Children's Rights.
It should be reminded that on August 18, a video circulated online showing a woman subjecting a minor girl to violence and involving other children to humiliate her daughter. It was later revealed that the girl was being beaten by 34-year-old Anna Arevshatyan. The incident was recorded in Gavar. Arevshatyan has been arrested.
