Turkish Seismologist Predicts Earthquakes in Malatya and Adana
Turkish seismologist, engineer, and professor Osman Bektaş has announced that the energy released into the earth's crust due to the earthquakes that occurred on February 6 in the Pazarcik and Elbistan regions of Turkey continues to spread, increasing the likelihood of an earthquake in Marash. This is reported by Ermenihaber.
“The Malatya fault, which was formed by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake and caused a 7.6 magnitude quake, has transferred stress to the south and north, leading to earthquakes of 5.8 and 5.3 magnitudes in Adana and Malatya, respectively. Over time, the stress on the Malatya fault will increase,” Bektaş stated.
Bektaş has warned that the fault which caused a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the Çeyhan district of Adana in 1998 could result in another earthquake of similar magnitude.
